Join us for a live 30-minute session to discuss the do’s and don’ts for bar/restaurant businesses. Attorneys, Mouna Hanna and Brock Turville, will identify the property, general liability and liquor risks associated with owning and operating a hospitality business. The discussion will include claim examples surrounding, but not limited to, exhaust/hood/duct system defects, food poisoning, and certified alcohol training. They will also provide best practices for avoiding potential claims. Feel free to invite your insureds to this session free of charge.
Guest Speaker – Mouna Hanna
Partner, DWF Canada
Mouna has spent her entire career representing insurers and their insureds in claims involving cybersecurity incidents and breach of privacy claims, professional negligence and complex bodily injury arising from general liability and hospitality claims. Mouna sits on the Board of Directors for Canadian Defence Lawyers and has been recognized by Lexpert as a leading lawyer in litigation and commercial insurance.
Guest Speaker – Brock Turville
Lawyer, DWF Canada
Brock is a lawyer at DWF with a focus on hospitality and liquor liability, professional liability, and sports liability. Brock successfully defended a local bar in a motion for an interlocutory injunction. The plaintiff, a tenant who lived next to the bar, brought a motion seeking an order that the bar be prohibited from making any noise during certain hours, amongst other things. The plaintiff’s motion was dismissed in its entirety, a significant cost award was obtained, and the bar continues to operate. Brock also has experience in dealing with self-represented litigants. He has successfully brought motions to dismiss claims for being frivolous, vexatious, and an abuse of process early in the litigation process, saving significant time and expense.
